Locking Village Church of St Augutine's 2011

Today I decided to wander off on my bike stopping at Locking Church on route as part of 'The Discovery of Somerset Churches'--a childhood project continued into the mature years. I was fortunate becaue the cleaners were there and this enabled me to view the inside.I took loads of photos but only videoed the outside. This church is famous around the world because of it very rare FONT--Norman/Anglo-Saxon with a mixture of carvings -- celtic art work with entwining serpents plus Norman Knights in embrace at the 4 corners--.Only 2 such fonts exist in the whole of the UK and both are found in Somerset. The celts lived here long before the Romans but the church could have been founded by the Augustine monks of Woodspring Priory in about 1230 because the manor of Locking was also part of the church. My love of the Priory continues with the visit to this church today
